Thanked: 315First Straight Razor - Henckels TwinsWorks 50
I'm not sure if this qualifies as a 'restoration' or not, but I have put some work into it. This is my first straight razor, so please keep that in mind. I don't know much about it other than what is stamped on it.
I have the blade finish looking a lot better, but it still isn't quite where I want it. For now I'm just focusing on getting it 'shave ready'. Scales were in great shape, they just needed a good cleaning. I removed the chips from the edge and I'm still honing where I can use it. Once my finishing stone gets here I hopefully it will be good to go.
Here is where I am now:

Thanked: 3225Looking good to me. You may find you have to do some work on the heel/stabilizer to get it out of the way when you hone. You'll know when you start honing. Would't be unusual to have to do so after removing that much steel to get those chips out.

Thanked: 315Thanks. When I first posted pics on a knife forum, someone (who is also a member here) mentioned the heel would need work. It may still need some more work, but I was trying to remove as little metal as possible. I used sandpaper to remove most of the chips shape the heel. Then I went to stones. Except for honing, I didn't remove any metal from the rest of the edge.
Here is a better picture of the whole blade before I started.

Thanked: 4826It looks like a good start. I think before you get to the hones you should make sure that you have as much polishing done as you want to get done. Mothers and 0000steel wool does wonders, finishing with mothers on a rag. Once you hone your razor you can kill your edge dead in a second with polish.

Thanked: 315Thanks for the advice.
It is already partially honed, i just to finish it on a finer stone so it will shave coarse hair comfortably.
I've used that (wool) to clean up knives, but havent tried it on the straight yet. I'll probably wait until the blade needs rehoning before i do more polishing. I don't want to ruin the edge I've already put on it. Plus, it is going to be a user and i think it already looks pretty good, just not awesome.
