Thread: 6/8 suminagashi razor in Red White and Blue

This is a 6/8+ razor in suminagashi steel. The core steel is Japanese White Paper steel, the sides are mild steel with contrast layers. I made this one smaller than my usualy designs which lean more towards 8/8, simply because this was the end of the stock. It was not enough to make a big blade, but I didn't want to throw it away so I drew out a modest tang and a 6/8 blade.

For the shape I went with a design I made earlier for TC, which was in turn inspired by the flowing Sheffield designs of Joseph Rodgers and sons. I kept the flowing lines, but made them a bit tighter and modern.

For the scales I wanted to try out a new type of Kirinite I'd bought. Not surprisingly, given the Red White and Blue theme, it is called 'Patriot'. It would have been ideal to release the pics on the 4th of July, but that's too far away still. I really like the depth showing in the blue, and the contrast with the red and white.
