6/8 suminagashi razor in Red White and Blue
This is a 6/8+ razor in suminagashi steel. The core steel is Japanese White Paper steel, the sides are mild steel with contrast layers. I made this one smaller than my usualy designs which lean more towards 8/8, simply because this was the end of the stock. It was not enough to make a big blade, but I didn't want to throw it away so I drew out a modest tang and a 6/8 blade.
For the shape I went with a design I made earlier for TC, which was in turn inspired by the flowing Sheffield designs of Joseph Rodgers and sons. I kept the flowing lines, but made them a bit tighter and modern.
For the scales I wanted to try out a new type of Kirinite I'd bought. Not surprisingly, given the Red White and Blue theme, it is called 'Patriot'. It would have been ideal to release the pics on the 4th of July, but that's too far away still. I really like the depth showing in the blue, and the contrast with the red and white.

I love the blade! not the scales. The craftsmanship and quality are there but they don't send me.

In my opinion, the scales overwhelm and steal from the beauty of the blade. That blade of Japanese welded steels should be an eyeful in itself
The Japanese are known for the appearance of simplicity in highly crafted items.
That blade, lovingly forged of the finest Japanese steel, has that quality of shibui.

Just my personal opinion.

I can see your point. For the one I made from the 16th century sword, this is exactly what I did.
For modern razor designs, I tend to vary the materials I work with. Many people buy custom razors, and by varying the designs, materials and concepts, different kinds of people will buy and use my razors. Some people really like this kind of steel with this kind of scales.
And This material I hadn't used before. I tend to buy it in sheets, and then the first razor of my own design gets scales from the new sheet (s) just to see what it will look like on a razor.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
