Thanked: 2284Geo. Wostenholm Doubley Carbonized I-XL
This is a razor I had seen a while back and really fell in love with it. The etching along the top spin, the unique frameback, and the stub tail, were all things that caught my eye. I had to have one. This one is a full 15/16, had perfect patina and was in great shape except for rust on the front and back of the tang. All in all it was really an easy clean up. I saved the scales and lead wedge and repinned in double stacked brass washers. The only thing I did to the blade was rubbed it down with oil and steel wool to remove the rust. Other than that the blade was untouched to preserve that wonderful Patina. I hope to get it honed tonight and a shave tomorrow. Can't wait!! Here it is, thanks for checking it out gentleman!
Here's a before shot

Thanked: 2284A thought I had, Although it has a stub tail, I believe it does not fit into the era of true stub tails. Any thoughts on that???

I have one with the 'doubly carbonized' spiel on the blade's face as well on a pewter strip on the front scale.
Those are awesome shavers. Much better, to me, than the faux-frameback versions as the added weight of the hefty spine and thick tang is desirable for me. Yours looks to be in fine nick. Swoop that sucker on the hones and get a shave, man!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

That is a big one! Mine is a 6/8 and seems much smaller in the spine dept!

Very nice - have the exact same one - haven't got around to honing mine yet, now I know who to bother for help...I'll be staying tuned to hear how it shaves.

FME, these hone up super-easy. Nice wide spine and a thin blade. Pretty easy if no chips.
Good thing is, the whole blade is evenly tempered on these. I have had them honed down to 9/16 on the smallest-framed ones (I think they did 3 sizes) and they all honed-up easy and shaved great. YMMVLast edited by sharptonn; 03-14-2015 at 02:33 AM.
