1st times a charm, but I don't think I'll quit my day job. 😀
PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU HAVE AN OPINION. ALL INPUT HELPFUL.☺
So I decided to attempt a rescale adventure. This is my 1st attempt, but I was optimistic to give it a go. Did some YouTube recon and read a few posts here in the forum. So what the heck.
This project started with a Merrell Hardware of Toledo, Ohio 7/8 Solingen blade, probably late 60's.
So I decided to go acrylic. Had to buy a belt sander and jigsaw from Harbor Freight. The scales are called Blue Ocean foam. They were hand sanded from 220-800 grit. Then hand polished from 1500-1micron. Then a quick turn on the wheel with white jewelers rouge for the minor hairline scratches.
If I had to do it again, I would replace the bone wedge with some contrasting acrylic, but that's another project.
All in all, I'd say I'd try it again, but I'm not quitting my "Day job". The Misses can't stand the incessant " tapping" from peening. 😀 (we live in an apartment, so dining table and balcony workshop)
Onto the blade porn:
Edit 3/29
Okay, so I took some new photos with a neutral back drop. And by no means do I spend any time in front of or behind a camera.😊
Here I'll try to show the clearance the heel has from the bottom of the scales, but its hard to see. There is a good 3/16" of scale material before the blade.

So how does it shave? The background looks like a plate of fried noodles. drop the f/stop down a notch.

Beautifully, the blade is so thin, you can hear the "ting" as it cuts. I believe it is referred to as a "singing blade".
Aside from the occasional nick from the tip (need to break the point, if I value my life, but what fun would that be)Last edited by lethalgraphix; 03-29-2015 at 02:12 PM.

Great job for your first time out. : ) I like your choice in scale material and the steel to put in them. To my eye the scales could be a bit wider toward the heel to bring it all into proportion and to protect an errant finger from touching the heel of that blade when closed.
