Thread: Revisited an earlier resto

This Wade & Butcher was one of my first "full" restorations. I've got a few more under my belt and this one being in regular rotation, I began to notice some areas that I could improve on as well as something I wanted to try for the first time. So, I un pinned this one and started by removing the finish by using my wife's nail polish remover (this may make your wife mad). Next I did some light sanding on the woodwork, rounding off some hard edges and evening things up a bit. I reapplied the fixative spray to get the gloss finish. *I did not make the scales, a member of the facebook page "straight razor restorers of planet Earth", Rowdy Wright, made these.

The main objective was to clean up the wedge, which was made out of blond horn. It had some rounded edges and did not sit flush with the outer edges of the scales. So, I went to work with some sand paper and a flat plane. I also wanted to try my hand at "racing stripes". I bought a sheet of 1/32 stainless steel from the local hobby store, made some measurements, and used a cut off wheel to bring out the rough pieces. I then used epoxy to hold them in place after I drilled the pin holes. Sanding them down took some time, even with a dremel. Final sanding and polish was done on sand paper and a buffing wheel.

I'm very please with how these turned out!

Put some hot rod in an old favorite and a good job of it. Not my cup of tea but that doesn't mean nothing. I like the liners in the wedge though.
Nail polish remover is acetone. Just to help you save your marriage. Of course you can't bitch now if she shaves her legs with your straight :<0)
