Thread: Jinxed Duck

I saw this and picked it off the bay some time ago. I put it in some blue acrylic you guys have seen before because it seemed fitting and was all I had in blue at the time.


The scales below are not the ones that came with this blade but, part of the story.



Bresnick 2 Duck logo, Blue Jinx and I was happy with that.

Then I saw this .



Same logos except what ? Twin Duck inlay. Has to be original so I got it thinking I would grab the brass off it.



So it wasn't brass but it looked good after polishing and before lifting it off. But turned out to be rotten from the inside out. What a challenge eh? So I thought about it and it sat. Forever and ever.

Fast forward.





Now I know what your thinking and before the BS flags come out let me remind you of the first pic !

I spotted a razor on the bay. Posted as " Vintage Barber Straight Razor Twin Duck Blue Steel with Name"
Low and behold in all that was another set of cell rotten scales with the same inlay.
A couple of my Duck hunting buddies laid back and let me get it for more than it was worth but what it was listed for. Thanks guys

3 auctions later I finally got a razor custom rebuilt. I don't think ole Bresnick is rolling in his grave over it.

When I get a new photo tent built I will post my whole collection with better pics and details.

Your guess is as good as mine.

I looked that up when I first got it and nothing makes sense. It says (Made in Germany) and not the typical (Soligen Germany). Then again, not much is typical about Ducks. If I was a research kinda guy I am not sure I could even find out anything about the timeline of these razors. I guess I am going to have to do some serious digging someday.

That turned out NICE!

saw that finished razor and thought "how in the world did he piece that rotten inlay back together so seemlessly..........?" well glad i read on for the explanation, nice to hear when things work out like that nice work on this, fitting scales for the blade me thinks. too bad bresnick didnt have you on the team!

Yeah I took that slight of picture and explanation from a recent thread a good hearted fellow started not too long ago :<0)
I was actually fortunate enough to be able to trace the original scales before I lifted the inlay. So, except for material it is pretty much as original as I could get it. I went with clear wedge and 3rd pin spacer because it seems to work better than black on the transparent acrylics.

Wow! Great work to bring that Duck back to life.
