Gold Lettered Razors
I just finished the pipe razor! it goes wonderfully with the other two razors with gold lettering on the scales
George Wostenholm & son Original Pipe Razor (cracked the scale and had to re drill the pin hole for the razor end as it was really crooked)
Wade and Butcher The celebrated Washington Razor (stacked washers)
Joseph Wostenholm & son EBRO The old English Razor (had to repair the back scale, it was missing one end now the scale has a gold toe)
and a few before pictures (An old torrey was in the pipe scales)
Honing time!!

Thanked: 4826Nice work. Cleaning up after putting the gold back on can be a bit of a tedious task. It looks like you've put a little time in on these ones.

thanks Rezdog, yeah it can be. i think i worked out a pretty good system by the third razor
sand the scale to 2000g first
you can paint on the gold and go a bit nuts, don't have to worry too much bout keeping it in the lines and then wipe over it with a cloth wrapped tight around your finger with just the barest minimum of turps on it over it a few times and it takes off the excess around the letters to what you can see below on the washington
you can let it dry and use sand paper to do the same but i found it clogged up to fast and wasn't as nice a finish
i tried to put in the time for these, i quite like how they are shiny and fresh but still have their old character about them. (But no rust!!)

Thanked: 4206Nice work recovering the font! Very clean looking razors..
Makes me want to try the gold leaf I used on my Non Xll's on an old Wostenholm I have with faded scale lettering.

I use gold enamel I picked up at the local hardware store for modelers. I put it on much more sparingly with a tooth pick. Kind of tedious. Let it dry 24 hours and buff with 1200 grit. I never thought of using turpentine. I'll give it a try next time. Looks like a simpler process. Thanks for the suggestion.
