Thanked: 13245Aged gently using a nice Italian Roast in a French Press
No really,,, I tried simple first figured I could always go to the Vacuum Chamber and stronger solutions if needed, polished with RenWax after..
I did NOT sand and polish the scales anywhere near the level i do for new customs, as I was asked not to and to give them an aged look
The Coffee brought out the patterns and many of the natural marks..
I like the outcome might use it again in the future ..
Just wanted to update the thread

That's a great idea Glen !!....I use coffee (sometimes tea) to age my collection of doilies
but never considered using this method on scales.
I guess bone is porous enough to accept slight staining without being overwhelmed by
the coffee, bringing out "beauty spots". Thanks for the tip
Oh, forgot to mention, the scales look super !!http://straightrazorplace.com/workshop/18504-welcome-workshop-how-do-i-where-do-i-what-do-i-answers-here.html

Thanked: 113They look great, well done!
Personally, I do like the contrast of white and red on the previous version a little more.
IMHO super HOT.

Beautiful Glen, I always like how you do your scales, especially the look you get on the blond/honey horn, the bone is spectacular as well.
Great restore, as always - thanks for sharing!

I'm adding this technique to the overwhelming list of materials finishes and techniques that are giving my imagination more and more options to work with!
Great work!
I've got so many projects waiting, piling up, definitely going to try coffee out... maybe I'll use an Italian espresso roast!!! . Hehehe“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

You have to admit it sounds a little funny on a Razor Forum...like a pirate collecting paperweights.
But I am no judge of collecting habits as this is my only one, razors, and I can hardly be considered a collector. But what I have learned is probably applicable to a number of collectables, including doilies. I'm sure there is a compelling history, aesthetics, fellowship, etc.
My moms crocheted doilies. I haven't thought of them in years. They covered every armchair and sofa in the 'house.' I can see the elaborate patterns as I type, sort of like snowflakes made of thread."Call me Ishmael"
