    Nice, 'non minimalist' restore, Mike! If that is truly Chinese, someone will come along with a translation!

    Nice restore.
    If you search Chinese razor you will come up with a great explanation of the characters. I'm not literate enough to link it. Translates to something like 'Uniquely Suited'. I have 2 razors with those exact markings. Here is a picture of one. It has the same set of scales as yours with the diamond shaped escutcheons. The blade has the same style pointed tang but has a single shoulder where yours is a shoulderless grind. You have motived me to do something with this razor which has also been sitting in my restore box for some time. I can see what look like domed washers over the diamond escutcheons. Was there a reason for this? Am I in for any surprises when I unpin the razor?

    Hmmm
    On a closer look the tang stamps are different but there sure are some commonalities between the two razors. Here is the other blade I have. A heavy wedge. A shoulderless grind like yours but with a thumb notch and upper and lower jimps.

    Spectacular restore Mike - breathtaking as usual!

    The shape of the tang, the fact that it's a Sheffield blade, and the fact that Elliot also makes a Chinese razor (like many do), makes me think it might be an Elliot. Elliot has a "Damascus" razor with a very similar tang, with Hebrew on the blade face..i.e., another Sheffield razor with non-English character...maybe, but again, the tang makes me think Elliot.

    edited at add: diamond shaped washers on that razor are stunning, don't think I've ever seen that before - smokin'!

    中国使用符号剃须刀
    刀=Knife
    须=Must
    剃=shave
    号=number
    符=symbol
    用=use
    使=so
    国=country
    中in

    中国=China
    使用=make use of
    符号= mark, sign, insignia ( trade mark?)
    须刀=shaver (razor)
    In China, make use of trademark razor??

    Hey Karl! Thanks for posting pics of your two 'Chinese' razors. Mine is a heck of a shaver so I definitely recommend at least honing up those two that you have. Interesting that both of your razors have different 'stamped characters' than mine yet also have no makers mark... ...?

    The domed washers were just a choice based on the way they looked for me. I liked the contrast of the brass 'button look' on top of the silver escutcheon plates, and also the pin holes in the plates on the pivot were pretty much dented in and I wanted to cover that up. So...hopefully no surprises for you and you can go with a collarless pin if that's what you want.

    Thanks Andrew! I love that Elliot of yours... and you're right the tail looks very similar. I would like to think that it could be an Elliot BUT like the two that Karl posted I'll never know for sure. It is a great vintage shaver though so it really doesn't matter I guess. I LOVE those shoulder-less blade profiles!
