I was just gonna shine the 9TE5 a bit…
I got this inexpensive fair looking 9TE5 H. Boker & Co 11/16" off the SRP classifieds two weeks ago to start learning/practicing honing.
Being a former Marine I had to shine it up a little bit first. I started squaring this puppy away and the next thing I know I’ve got it in pieces. Image that.
It had a bent pin & tang and the blade edge touched scales a little. The bent tang with two tapers with the scales splayed to match the taper took forever to figure out. I had to re-drilled the pin hole five times before I got the blade right. Ground/reshaped the heel to match the excessive toe ware to try and square things up. Softened the point a little for I'm still to new the SR shaving.
Is there a way to straighten the bent tang if there is I'll redo it in a heart beat?
How'd I do for my first un-planned re-furbish (all by hand no power tools)?
Now I am apprehensive about learning to hone on this nice looking razor but I will.
That's a ripple not a hole from the old original washer & pin which ended up 1/16" off after squaring bade to scales.
Shave the Lather...
