17/16 curved handforged in O2
This one is a blend of 2 earlier designs. It is curved more than I'd normally do. It came out allright. It is not as curved as those kikuboshi razors I've seen. That would be even more challenging to grind I think. And to be honest, while smiles shave better than straights, there has to be an upper limit to how curved you can make a razor before it starts to become impractical.

That just looks like it wants to shave somebody! Great looking razor, and I agree on the smile. I would say that one is just about the limit of practicality, at least given my shaving skill.

Thanked: 1081Beautiful as always Bruno.
My smiler is a lovely shaver, I find the smile makes the razor more nimble.

Thanked: 44Great looking razor, I love the lines, especially the tang. As to where the upper limit is when it comes to curve, it must be somewhere above the curve on this R Saito SK1 because this has turned out to be one of my best shavers. Its my belief the curve is the main reason it gives such a great shave, possibly for the same reasons a boning knife is curved, not straight. I normally prefer spike point razors, but the curve also makes it almost as easy to hit the hard to get at spots. Keep up the great work Bruno. One of these days I'm going to open up my wallet, wipe away the tears and give you some money for one of those fine blades!

Interesting. I've experimented a little with this, and for me, I find around a 12" radius to be my sweet spot. At 9" radius I find the advantages of the smile to not be improving while I feel that some sacrifice is being made like shaving a narrower swath. These differences are very subtle and after reading your post, I guess personal.
