Thanked: 4207Joseph Rogers and sons. Bellied tang hollow 7/8th barbers notch in honey horn.
Evening gents.
Finished off my first razor in honey horn tonight. Still need to hone it and test it but happy with the results. Centre's bang on and good grip in the horn without thrust washers on the inside.
Makers Mark was nearly gone when I got it but I saved what I could. Enough to be certain of the lineage, if not the exact year of construct.
Started with this, only before shot sadly. Fair bit of black staining that went quite deep.
To this; note, the mark cleaned up better than it appears, left some mothers behind, and around the collars, I just noticed in the uploads.
Scales are thin, and somewhat translucent. Made the wedge from the same horn for a very invisible finished end.
Can't wait to get er honed up and tested.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers.

Thanked: 634Very nicely done. Do you think or know if it was made with that shape to the shank? Or do you think i5 was modified at some point. Either way I like it.

Nice job on a very high quality razor. You will love the Joseph Rodgers & Sons shave, they are the best shaving of the Sheffield razors I've tried so far. Most Sheffield razors give the particularly smooth shave when finished on a Coticule, a little tip I picked up a while back from gssixgun.
That Fredrick Reynolds will be another fine shaver. They can be a bear to hone (I have only had one that wasn't) but once they are honed give an excellent shave and hold their edge for a long time."If You Knew Half of What I Forgot You Would Be An Idiot" - by DoughBoy68

Thanked: 4207Thanks gents. Andrew, I too was looking forward to this one being completed. Honing it tonight!
The bellied tang sure looks original to me bouschie, lines were very crisp and the stamp looks like it followed the curve.
Doughboy, that Reynolds in original ivory is out for honing with Phil in Hamilton as we speak. I restored it but could not get a bevel I liked so sent to a local pro. Neat history on that one. Will post it up when it comes back. Some folks want to see the ivory in black light as well.
I've kept my finer blades in the drawer until this year so my inexperience wouldn't have me ruining them with enthusiasm.
Thanks for the feedback Mike. Every time I thought I was 'there' finish wise, I kept going back to some of yours and said, 'no, I can do better, Mike was able to." So thanks for setting the finish bar so high."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."
