Default Joseph & Rodgers restore take 2

I did give it a few days before I gave it another go, just because I was so frustrated after the first set I made. I was working at it until 6am and still didn't have a usable set... But after gathering my pride for the last couple days along with some good information, I was ready to give it another shot and with my previous failure of the blade being waaaay off centered I made a comeback by making a set of scales that was dead center in my mock-up first try! What a satisfying feeling of closing the razor and not having to make any adjustments! I seriously think that the black horn would have been way better looking but I was fresh out... I even had to restort to finding the wedge from the black horn failure because I didn't have anymore bone lol... I was so involved with making the scales I pinned the razor and realized I hadn't even check if it needed some sanding lol but after further investagatiom the steel was in perfect condition so a little bit of black compound, white compound and some mothers she had a mirror shine... So here she is, let me know if u have any suggestions on how I can make my scales even better... This is my first set of horn 2nd set of scales I've ever made, so any tips would seriously be appreciated... Sorry about the pictures I still haven't made my light box

That's awesome, so what are they ready to be printed to size or something? And that's cool because I have issues drawing out my own scales... Not much of an artist

Thanks for the compliment... I was super concerned because this was going to be the first set that I actually drew the design myself, on top of coming off a complete failure I was super nervous and excited to see the end result....

IIRC the first set (11 pages) are good to go, just print out and cut out.

I've been watching your progress in various posts. Each time you scales up a razor you will learn something new and improve. Here's a little stick and rudder.
    1. Scales appear to be thick but it could just be the picture. They should be no thicker than .120 for a big blade. Preferably .110 to say .095. Look at some and measure some originals. Pay attention to tapering the scales evenly from the edge to the center of the scales. Yours appear fatter on the bottom edges.
    2. The wedge looks thick at the edge of the scale. Is it a wedge or a spacer? A spacer will not allow the scales to function as they should. It also looks short. On a blade that size I would have made it about 9/16 long. They all vary some but it's a good ball park figure. Measure some originals.
    3. Don't put the wedge pin so close to the end of the scales. Making the wedge short didn't help that. I measure back 1/8" from the inside edge and drill my hole. Again look at some originals.
    4. Copy some original scales for your first few instead of trying your own designs. As Glen often says those old timers new what they were doing.
I usually say little in these forums regarding other folks work but you appear to be giving this a serious go. Stay with it. I think you'll find there is no shortage of encouragement here.

Looking pretty good! The only thing which seems a bit off to me would be the thickness of the wedge and the wedge pin placement as stated above. Great progress, keep up the good work.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
