Thanked: 2284For my Uncle.
My Uncle has recently showed interest in learning how to shave with a straight razor. He requested that I get him a razor brush and bowl for Christmas and I agreed I would do that for him. He didn't want anything special just something to get him started. Then my Aunt came along and requested that I do something a little more special for him. He's very much a wood guy like myself and she requested that I use some exotic woods for the projects. OF COURSE!! I said. Lol.
Here's the razor I just got done for him. The blade is a Quimco Razor Works, Solingen Germany. On the back it says Faweyso Made in Germany. I did the scales from Chakte Viga wood, and the wedge is Tagua nut (Vegetable Ivory.) Hand rubbed 3 coats of oil in to give it that soft glow. This wood doesn't need much protection, it's super oily as it is. I hope he has the patience to learn the straight razor and all it's glory. He seems like the kind of guy who would have the persistence it takes.
Edit, added this before pic, and yes I kept these scales They did not belong on this blade.

Thanked: 4206Nice thin skins Andrew!
Uncle's goin to love the set I reckon.
If he doesn't take to the wet shave ways, the hand restored component of the gift will keep it a treasured piece I am sure.
Looking forward to seeing the brush completed s well.
Great job, as usual mate..

I made him a Mortar and Pestel out of Walnut a long time ago, and he loved it. He will love this.

Darn it to all get out Andrew, I would have thought those adoption papers to make me your eldest child would have gone through by now. I'm a petulant child and I don't want to miss my new daddy's first Christmas with me.
BTW, great work, couldn't be anything less."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."
