Default Half rattler grind Colley & Co.

From one of Neil Miller's posts I learned the Sheffield cutlers referred to this grind as a half rattler grind. I have also seen this grind with blade stamps that say double concave. This blade is 7/8 with the blade face stamped 'Manufactured for W.W. Messer Boston'. The original finish was a crocus (mirror) finish. The original dyed horn scales, flat with beveled edges and a lead wedge were replaced with copies in faux turtle (Tortuga East polyester). The originals varied in thickness from .120 to .110. These are .110. I haven't yet figured out how to inlay an escutcheon into this soft material yet.
A little history on W. W. Messer & Co. Boston. From 'A Strangers Guide in the City of Boston' published in 1849. W.W. Messer opened his establishment in 1837 for the sale of 'fine cutlery, staples and French & English fancy goods'. He was succeeded by B.W. Thayer in 1844 and became known as B.W. Thayer & Co.
