I have two questions for you. What kind of set up are you using to get that nice thin grind? And what kind of fibers are used in making granite micarta?

I use a fixture, that I will be demonstrating at Charlie Lewis' North Central Texas Razor Meet in February, for the pre heat treat rough grind.
After the HT all of the work is free hand on a 2"x72" belt sander, basically working from the edge first toward the spine using smaller wheels as I go to address the different areas of the blade.
Believe it or not, the top layers of the micarta are the same porous grey construction paper that is the back round for the photos. The funny thing is that the first time I used this paper I was really kind of disappointed because of how dark it came out. I was after light grey panels. Now I really like the faux granite effect that I get with it. I just bought some more of it. A happy mistake!Last edited by bluesman7; 01-05-2016 at 08:32 PM.
