Some time ago I was looking at a Special Spike on e-Bay. It had a few piles of rust on it but in the sellers pics I saw 1 spot on the toe that looked like it could be a crack. So, I asked the seller if they could see one and she said no but there could be. Asked me for my address and wanted to send it to me for free. I guess it wasn't selling and she figured everybody else saw what I did.

I got it and found a crack under all the rust. I rounded off the toe and sanded out most of the pitting.
The scales had to be replaced because what I saw was cell rot.

Well, the scales came out nice but when I went to finish sanding and polish, the blade broke even more from the same direction. I must not have gotten all the crack out because a little to much pressure and "PING" the crack continued from where it left off. Guess I was too greedy with the length.

Ultrasoundguy asked me about some green scale material in another thread and it reminded me of this project. After I broke the thing I lost one of the pivot bolsters and so it sat for a long time. I bought another Special but when I got it I couldn't see robbing from 1 just to leave me with 1 so I put it all away. Then 1 day while looking through stuff I find the other bolster in with an Engels or something. pffffff And here I looked through 2 shop vacs ( half full of dust bunnies and garage waste and an upright vac bag looking for this dang bolster.
