Thanked: 1184Red horned Greaves .
So I got it cheap in this condition. Well actually, I had already knocked the red off it at this point. Wasn't to sure how it would turn out. This of course was done on the grinder with fine belts. There was no way I was going to get this done by hand.
The pits were pretty deep and I left some in order to save detail and the makers mark. As you can see it was 1 or the other. Bummer.
But I got it polished up and I picked out some special horn material I have had for awhile and made some new scales for it. Not to sure about the washers I made but they are growing on me.
If any of you are thinking of using red horn know this. It is only red on the surface. The streaking may go deeper but it will show black/brown and white once you get through the red.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 1184I started to just sand it off once I saw the sides when rounding over but thought I would just continue to see what happens. Glad I did. I buffed down the red some on the flats and that gave it a whole new look. This picture is in sun light which show what I mean. It's in test pin so it's not very clean either :<0)
I didn't buff the back side and you can see better what I mean about the color change from rounded edge to the flat area.

Thanked: 1184This is kind of an odd Greaves from what I have seen. The spine comes to a point and has a big radius down to the blade face. Being odd myself I kinda like to keep the unusual close by :<0) Except for my first Greaves the others are off the beatin' path also.
Short answer .... nope not at this time. But if somebody had a couple of good lookin' 40 year old gals, and they came by with lots of cash, I might be persuaded :<0)Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
