Default One Piece 1084 Razor with Desert Ironwood

    Greetings everyone,

Here is a one piece razor that I just finished. The steel is 1084F from Aldo (the NJ Steel Baron), the scales are Desert Ironwood, and the pins are titanium. The razor is about 15/16 inches wide and edge is approximately 3 inches long. I am in the process of honing the razor now.

    Really a nice looking razor!
I too like the nice clean look of functional beauty.
Is it easy to manage on the strop?
Is that desert ironwood used as scales taken from the roots of the ironwood tree?
I have a large stack of Desert Ironwood roots that look similar in that they have a lot of gold coloring mixed with the dark brown.

    nicely finished
how does the straight tang on it feel when using it?

I think there is a reason most Japanese Kamisori have the angled tangs for ergonomics.
    Saved,
    to shave another day.

For one, dominant, hand shaving, I found about a 5-10º up to the kamisori tail makes starting at the sideburns easier. YMMV..drastically

The razor shown is beauty and would fit into any rotation or collection with no excuses!.

BTW, I should clarify that my knife comment was meant to be a compliment. I think you made a razor look about as much like a knife as is possible, and you did a great job doing it!

Thanks guys! I got the razor honed up today, and I'll probably try it out over the weekend.

Galaxy51, the razor rolled fairly well between my fingers, so stropping wasn't a problem. If I recall correctly, I got this ironwood from Arizona Ironwood. I don't know what part of the tree it's from.

I know Kamisoris tend have angled handles, but I don't know if it will end up being a problem not having one. The reality is that I made the handle straight because I cut two razors out of the same piece of steel (inverted, with the handles overlapping). I just haven't finished the second razor yet. It's still too cold in my garage to spend the time I need at my grinder.
