Wow. Did you just shape/finish/sharpen it or does it require heat treatment and the like too?

Thanks everyone!
It was a fun learning experiment.
I started out with a leaf spring from an old Chevy, cut that into slabs (plasma cutter) then flattened it as best i could to take the arc out of it on my belt sander.
Then I made a jig to hold it to put the wedge shape into it.
Tried to hollow it out a bit on my belt sander edge, then went to the dremmel.
I KNOW....I KNOW.... I had no choice, I don't have my 2x72 sander yet!
Tried to set a bevel and then removed material that was in the way...lol
Finally got a decent looking edge and spine wear pattern and then did a LOT of hand sanding!
I did not heat treat it.....but.... I never got the blade to hot to hold in my bare hands. My thinking is this will be okay as it is a wedge "grind" so it is relatively "thick" on the edge.
I could be totally wrong but it took and held an edge that was comfortable to shave with. Time will tell I guess.....
Oh yeah....you need a REALLY GOOD drill bit to drill hardened steel...

Thanked: 4207Very nice creation Chev! Great repurposing of the ole leaf spring. Makes me wish I could have kept some of my old goodies from some special old rides to try something similar.
Very nice metal work achieved with very basic tools.
Nice job sir!
