    Default Twin Duck restoration

Twin Duck restoration for a member on the forum. I restored the razor as close to the original condition as possible. The original tang was black , so I blued it after I cleaned up the rust. I could not buff it because it is hammer forged, but the new finish is very even and deep black.
The blade has no hone wear at all. I did not want to buff with compounds to avoid rounding the spine so I did full progression hand sanding followed by felt and leather wheel buffing with black emery. As a result some pitting is left on the blade
The original scales were bone with a crack running through the wedge pin. The original idea was to strenghten with CA and leave the scales as they are , but during unpinning one of the scales snapped at the pivot pin. I made new bone scales and stained them with coffee to achieve more antique look.

The test pieces got much darker and a lot closer to the original scales in color. I guess after polish the pores get filled with bone dust and the coffee did not stain as dark as I wanted. With time the color will come though.

    Very nice, clean restoration.
I'm curious about the coffee staining. How long did you soak the scales and how much did they darken?

Soaking time was about 20 minutes, the original color of the bone was pure white.
I first stained a few test pieces they become nice yellow-brown in color.

Great job keeping the edge definition sharp sir. Also the bluing turned out well as did the scales.
    Top notch all around.
