Got home last night from the slope and started these this AM .Top is a Gullatt razor co Atlanta Ga Master barber, next is a BJ Eyre&co Challenger Sheffield and at the bottom is a National cutlery co Philadelphia Pa.The scales had to go on the top two but the ones on the National are in fine shape. They all cleaned up nicely. The challenge razor has some very light corrosion marks and I don't want to loose the challenge on the blade so I think I will stop were I'm at on it.Now to decide on the scale material. The National scales are a type of plastic,I work with a lot of ivory and they did a great job replicating ivory but they have the flex of plastic.I wanted to make sure so I did a hot pin test on the inside just out of curiosity and it smell strange ! Like comphor ! If you have ever snapped a port orford cedar arrow you know the smell.Anyone have any insight on it ?

Figured it out, actually bakalight gives off a strong formaldehyde scent so I looked up French ivory to see what it was made from and lo and behold it's made from Celluloid and camphor ! It was put into use starting around 1860 .
