    Default Bartlett and Dow

I had sworn off buying any more razors, but several months ago, I just had to get this beauty. Not overdone, I unpinned the top and hand-polished everything, inside and out over a long period of time. Finally got it pinned back up with original collars and it is fresh off the hones. Seems either hard rubber or more likely celluloid scales, a full 8/8, wonderful double-stabilized, thinly double ground blade with a LOT of weight behind it. The (big!) original box is in good shape.
    Check this out!

All I can find of Bartlett and Dow in Lowell, Mass is that they sold seeds and implements. Any other info on them would be appreciated!

So I suppose this would be an implement?

Anyway, I just love the thing. I wonder who made it for them? IT does not quite remind of Sheffield, nor Solingen to me.
I would quite fancy it is from Connecticut or up in New York State.

Oddly enough, I have another razor from Lowell, Mass which I also rate as one of the coolest razors I have.
Good stuff from there back in the day!
    Thanks for looking!

Is the blade the standard length? Is there a standard length for given manufactures, time periods, etc.?

Na, Bill! I wish there was such! They cranked them out and collected for them. Like #2 pencils.
Probably could have paid for a great-great grandkid's college by hiding about 10 dollars worth.

That was what I thought as I received it! Decided on the hand-rub right then and there.

Just when this site is looking kind of repetitive...someone trots out some rare piece of history and I start straining on the rope line shouting...'look at that, this thing travelled through time!!!' And today for me), two examples, Magog and this Bartlett and Dow mystery. The straight razor is dead, long live the straight razor.

But if the straight razor is dead, Bill, how can it live long?
Hopefully, others will share their unheard of oddities on the forum. They need to be seen!

Agreed, I seem to gravitate to the unusual these days. I suppose a love for history a bit more than razors?
BTW, Bartlett is big name in Lowell. Street, school, etc.
