At this point the bevel has been set on a 1K. It is nice and thin and even. In the last picture you can see some of the bevel. I was losing light and wanted to take the pictures. I always set the bevel before the blade is pinned in the scales. It gives me a last chance to correct any bevel issues. During the buffing process I adjust the width of the bevel. On this blade the bevel and hone wear were pretty even so it was easy. That's not always the case. Some of these old wedges have a lot of uneven hone and bevel wear.

Thanked: 884Very nicely done.
My old Masonic George Savage & Sons XX is marked differently.
Here are some pics as found. It got a new set of old scales, scrubbed with a pencil lead to remove the rust, and honed. Any further attempts to shine will remove what's left of the etch. It's a beast of a razor and even though it's 8/8, it weighs more than my Masonic 9/8 Greaves.
His new scales are a tad longer than his originals but there wasn't enough difference to bother filling the hole and redrilling. I just pinned it up and ran it.
BTW, using google to search "George Savage XX" images can be rather surprising.Last edited by Wullie; 07-09-2016 at 04:55 PM.
