Thanked: 2284The hardest and the softest, soap dish.
Wasn't sure where to post this, but this seems appropriate I suppose.
A project for a friend I have put off for far too long, I finally finished. This for Sharptonn, a member here we are so very lucky to have among us. His knowledge, guidance, friendship and willingness to help in anyway is unmatched IMHO. This is a project I did to give back to him, for all the time and effort he has put forth to me, and I'm still not sure it's enough.
Thanks very much Tom for everything you have done for me in the past. I much appreciate it!
This is a lidded soap bowl I made from a repurposed 100 year old Lignum Vitae lawn bowling ball (The hardest), and a piece of, also very old, red cedar burl (the softest). I left the inside untreated so not to effect the lather of the soap, but the outside and lid has been treated with a UV inhibiting Marine Teakwood oil.
The soap going into it is one of my favourites, La Savonnerie du moulin, 30% donkey milk soap. IMO, better than Martin de Candre ( I'm hiding now for that comment.)
I hope you enjoy this soap Tom, and the dish.

If he says. "Aw shucks", when he sees the bowl I'm personally going down to Houston and smack him one. It is a beautiful bowl and well deserved for an exemplary human being. The same goes for Andrew.

Thanked: 2284Thanks guys. That Lignum Vitae is so hard, I bet I sharpened my main gouge at lest 10 times. It really is amazing stuff.
