It should be very sturdy. The horn dust/glue slurry is stronger than either the horn or the glue by itself.

In fact, while wiping the last bits of polish off with mineral spirits I managed to drop it.

I keep a padded rug under my workbench for exactly this reason, but the razor landed on the pivot end and bounced.

Very nice save. I too wonder about the strength in that repair. But i dought its going to be an everyday shaver so if it hold up for a couple shaves then you did a fine job. Congrads!

Zak, that is an amazing repair on the scales. What kind of glue did you use to get it to hold? Very impressed with this save to a great old Sheffield. Thanks for sharing.

For these sort of repairs I use the thinnest formula cyanoacrylate glue. I don't remember the particular brand. It's stuff I get at Woodcraft, along with the little needle-point application nozzles.

CA glue works very, very well on horn (ivory, too).

With as many razors as I have, nothing is a daily shaver... but I've done this sort of repair numerous times. It's very sturdy. Frankly, after the dye bath that wrecked the blade originally, that join will survive stresses the rest of the scales won't. I'd be completely comfortable using it as a daily shaver.
