    Default Roberts Duo

I sent both of these blades to Karl Johnson, who did a bang up job on both. One is very hollowed, the other a beautiful near wedge. Both shave extremely well.

Karl does some amazing work. Replication of the original horn scales no doubt and beautiful brass replica washers. His saves add another 200 years to those classic stubtails. Great job.

The hollowed Roberts was not reground obviously, just honed and rescaled. The other was reground and he had to bend the tang just a bit as it was very off center. The geometry was corrected and it is such a beautiful shaver. The hollowed is very light and nimble. Very keen.

This blade provided some challenges. A frown in the heel area on a blade where the heel flows into the tang and the bent tang. The bend was significant and upon rough assembly in the new scales the blade would only close about halfway before hitting the scales. Straightening was necessary. The result was a blade that closes on center. I would not say I reground the blade so much as I used a grinder to resurface the blade. This blade is about as close to a true wedge as I have seen.
