Fantastic detective work Zak, and a beautiful restore on the razor. I had a Hives stub tail years ago. Should've kept it just for the historical value. Who knew ?

Hive's made some nice quality razors too.

The land the Wade clan owned on Church street wasn’t farmland, but it also wasn’t built on when Robert the eldest bought it in the 1780’s. I believe they built a shop that would be Richard’s bookshop and a house where the lot of them lived.

But yeah, it was much smaller then. Here’s a map from 1808.

The street layout is much the same today in that area. 21 in the centre is the Cathedral today, same church just re named at some time....

I also did a ton of research on Isaac Oxley (which I'm still assembling -- I thought I was done, then found a bunch more) out of Liverpool.

Going purely on abstracts of physical records I was like, "Oh look, Isaac and his father both got married in the same church! I should find photos of it to include in the writeup."

Five minutes of research later.

"Wait, Saint Anne's isn't the same church as Saint Anne's?!?"

No, it wasn't. The one in 1809 was torn down and they built a new one a somewhere else.

Zac, I forgot to mention that the Cutlers Hall is on your map 24 on Church street looks the right spot. They hold a large collection of razors with a lot of high end ones. Not sure if the public can get to see them... I bet we would all like to drool over them though

Before I spent all my money buying a house on the San Francisco peninsula, I was planning a month-long research trip to Sheffield.

Previously, I’d talked to Joan Unwin at the Company about my fancy presentation edition of Leader’s history, and she told me they had a huge collection, very little of which is on display due to preservation issues. I vaguely planned to volunteer to help catalog them.

But house buying, then renovating happened, and now it will be years before I make that trip.

Curious what’s the ballpark for a razor like the is restored and before restoration?
Also dare I ask how much a restore like this costs?
More curious but that’s certainly a keeper
