You've gotten some good advice on getting started with restorations. Even some of the most skilled craftsmen on here start with some metal polish (MAAS, Mother's, etc.), 0000 steel wool and rags, working off the decades of patina/rust to see what you've got underneath. I learn something new every time I take an old razor apart for cleanup and/or rescaling.
Off topic, but you mentioned The Varsity. I remember going there circa 1970 when my family lived in College Park near the airport and my 5-year old self became enthralled with the then new 747-class jumbo jets thundering over our house every day (I doubt I would appreciate it now). At any rate, we would go to the Varsity for lunch before heading over to the old Fulton County Stadium to see my hero Hank Aaron and the Braves play. They had some good greasy food: burgers and hot dogs, onion rings, those famous orange dreamsicle shakes, etc. Good times!

Thanked: 0Ahh...good times. I grew up in East Point, a stones throw away from C.P. Thanks for the advise. I will spend my Christmas sitting in the easy chair, polishing some blades and reminiscing.

If you plan to get into this as a hobby I would recommend that you watch all the restoration videos by "Undream". He covers it all. That's how I got started seven years ago. You can find them in the library and are also available on Youtube. Welcome!
