John Hoffier's 'Made for the Army' razors are probably the most common I see but once in awhile I come across something different. This 6/8 near wedge sports a fancy arris spine and sharp jimps on the lower tang. I think the razor probably was crocus finished but I like the contrasting finishes with an arris spine. The blade faces are glazed and the spine and tang a crocus type finish. The scales are original with the original wedge. They required some straightening and the wedge had to be refit to remove the unsightly gaps. I also re-dyed the scales black using hair dye for an even appearance.

The scales look ver even in the pictures. When you are using hair dye are you heating the scales or processing them cold?
The project came out very nice.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

The scales are cold. I leave the dye on for about 1 hour. The scales are polished before applying the dye. You can also go over the scales lightly with 0000 steel wool after dyeing for a satin finish. Then some good wax.
