I've had the blues
Business is slower than usual with our extended mild winter.
Thanks, Phil!
Decided to doll-up my nice Union-Cutlery Spike. Like new blade!
Yellow cell is a turnoff. Got some green scales for a song.
Who knew there were different sizes of Spikes?
Anyway, my larger blade fit the green scales just fine.
Blued the tang, spine and nose. Some gold rubNbuff in the tang stamps.
After polishing the scales a bit, some in the hot-stamp.
Got it going with some of AJKenne's brass collars. Silly, I know, but the strop-scratcher has new clothes!
Sorry about the cruddy workshop pics!Last edited by sharptonn; 02-09-2018 at 04:47 AM.

Thanked: 4206Beautiful job tom.
Were the spikes originally blued like that?
Looks great as an upgrade if they weren’t..

Down the road a day or so, I had the privilege to purchase a NOS blade to perfect my silver Herder set....http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...m-herders.html
The blades were from different era/grinder.
Having the new blade in the 'L'scales made my set so much nicer.
What to do with the leftover blade? Not perfect. Pretty nice.
The seller's photo gave me an idea. How the light hit the tang, but I thought I could make it real!
So I took the blade and blued the sides of the tang only. Was a bitch!
Did the tang-stamps in silver rubNbuff.
The scales are old. Had them for ages and never found anything to quite go with them.
They are old hard-rubber/Bakelite. The collars are Austin's silver ones.
It's growing on me! What else could be done with these scales?
Again.....Cruddy workshop pics. Sorry!Last edited by sharptonn; 02-09-2018 at 04:38 AM.

Thanks Guys! Been a busy razor week. I wish I could have taken better pics.
I took one of my lights home for some reason. Blowing light in from the side helps.
They definitely look better in-hand.
All has been honed-up to-day including two others. Looking forward to the shaves.
