Default Wade and Butcher “Shortie” Rescale in Spalted Burl

Gentlemen-I finally found time to get back out in the shop and work on some razors. I just finished this one yesterday evening before the Wild Turkey 101 came out (in your honor, Mike!). As the very faint blade stamp “The Celebrated: Extra Hollow Ground” appears just to the right (and not centered) of an unusual Spanish point, I’m guessing that this one had a crack in the toe that someone ground out previously. (WB scholars correct me if I’m wrong).

I got this one when Glenn cleaned out his junk drawer, and since the stamps were almost gone and it is such a thin grind, I just polished it up with Mother’s on a buffer followed up by rags and elbow grease. Anyway, the “devil’s spit” complements the spalting in the stabilized burl on the scales, no?. Wedge is black horn.

I didn’t want to go too thin on the scales, as they were extremely soft even having been stabilized (I hope to add the backing for thin, brittle scales that I’ve seen many of you use to my tool-bag on an upcoming project). I just pinned it up with brass over stainless steel washers, polished it up on a buffer with Fabuluster, and buffed in a few coats of paste wax.

Obviously, I will have to bread-knife out that subtle frown towards the heel before honing, but I have high hopes for this nimble little WB. Thanks for looking and Happy New Year! SHD/Aaron

I like the scale shape and am a fan of spalted wood.
That is a wild point in that blade, has to have been a fix I would say.
