A swirly Geneva
Picked up this 6/8 round point on ebay when no one was looking since my Genco with swirly scales needed a friend.
It was missing a collar on the wedge end, but was otherwise in good shape. Scales cleaned up with some steel wool and a bit of polish. The tang and spine were taken from 320 to 2500 and polished to get a few darker pits out and the blade faces were taken from 600 to 2500 and then back down to 1500 for a more satin finish. A little cold blue helped the tang markings stand out a bit. Since one set of collars was missing and two other collars were actually part of the pin, they were replaced with some small nickel reproductions by A. J. Kennedy. Been working on my skills and I'm pleased with how this one came out. Thanks for looking.

Thanked: 4827Those Gencos are magnificent shavers. That one looks like it is preserved for the future now.

Torreys have the prettiest blades, but the Genco scales are just crazy, I love them.
Every time I'm scouring eBay for good American razors, if I see crazy scales that I love, it's always a Genco.

Those look great. Did they really go from yellow to white, or is that just the pictures?

The color change is part lighting, part exposure, and part real.
The "as received" and disassembled before pics were taken with different cameras and different lighting. You can see the color difference in the images due to light and exposure.
The color did lighten a bit from the cleaning/polishing. Viewed directly, the light areas are a cream color.O'Toole's commentary on Murphy's Law: Murphy was an optimist.

Thanked: 3215Did it take an edge? Looks like early cell rot. Note the pattern of rust on the razor matches the dark blue on the scales when closed. The rust spot on the bevel may be a problem.
I have seen many of that swirl style kick off and Genco’s are ground pretty thin to begin with.
Keep an eye on it.

Honed up nice, the rust on the front bevel was just on the surface, so was the pattern near the spine. Very little pitting, but yeah pattern around the spine had me a bit nervous. It's up for a test shave this weekend and then I'll keep an eye on it.
