Default Crown and Sword #3 in English Walnut

So my planned Saturday morning AP practice exam for my students got cancelled due to the threat of overnight ice-nobody complained. I took that as my sign to finish my latest one that I showed in progress in The Workshop. Crown and Sword #3 in English Walnut, with brass pins and cup collars, a brass-lined walnut wedge, and a hand-rubbed Tru-Oil finish. Having rescaled a number of other blades recently in every other kind of scale material, I was really missing wood and the smell of TruOil.

I'm probably going to give it to the former Eagle Scout of mine who is house/pet-sitting for us this summer while we are in Japan visiting my oldest son. I've already got him shaving with an old Torrey I gave him-he's ready to move up to something nicer now, I think. Thanks for lookin'-SHD

Thanks for the feedback men. Joseph, the more I use walnut for scales, the more it is becoming one of my favorite woods even over my beloved tropical hardwoods like ebony, cocobolo and all the gorgeous dalberghias. It just takes a gorgeous finish.

Plus-I won't lie, it will be nice to get a straight-edged solingen blade without any spine wear on the hones again. Those curvy Sheffields with wonky geometry can be a real pain to hone as you know.

Beautifully done. The former Eagle Scout will love it.

Those wonkey ones have character. I have one recently restored, twisted.. My god it hones up like a dream, super soft edge but I get what you're saying
I have a big piece of English walnut a guy not to far from me grows it and makes rifle stocks, I might have to get some on the go after seeing the grain in yours.

Yeah, I love the different colors and figure in the various walnuts. English is beautiful. I also re-scaled this Wostenholm in Bastogne/Tiger walnut last summer:

Claro and Circassian are both gorgeous, and favored by rifle-stock makers too. Exhibition-grade Circassian is super-expensive. I sure would love to have some!
