8/8+ Greaves with thumb notch tang
A heavy W. Greaves 8/8+ near wedge with thumb notch tang. Circa 1830's. Originally a crocus finished blade with a masonic etch on the show face. Unfortunately the very faint etch was lost during the restoration but the crocus finish has been reproduced. Copies of the broken scales with a lead wedge were made in black horn. One of the original large beehive collars was missing. Austin Kennedy makes an excellent reproduction set of these early Greaves collars which were used in the restoration.

Thanked: 556I see the restorations you do and know what my stained, pitted and patinaed blades could look like if I had your skill and knowledge. You set the bar very high.
