    Default John Stanley Boston

John Stanley Boston. I have not found much information on this maker/merchant. The 1848 Boston directory lists him at Faneuil Hall so I suspect he was a cutlery merchant. He most likely had the razor made in Sheffield even though the stamp says he manufactured it. D.C. Halsted, a merchant from New York, had razors made by Wade & Butcher but were stamped manufactured by D.C. Halsted.
This 13/16 near wedge with finger and thumb notches was originally crocus finished. The blade has the worst cold shuts or forging flaws I have ever seen in a razor. They run along the tang through the makers stamp. Another flaw starts on the back face near the tang running along the spine and crosses over the spine and runs down the show face side to the toe. Polishing the blade to crocus finish really made the flaws stand out so the blade was restored in a glazed finish to help mask the flaws. The black horn scales have been re-dyed.
