    Default Gilbert Brothers

Gilbert Brothers .. I'm guessing the other name is. Thomas D Clark Kentucky (American Historian) ?????
The scales are Ivory but a beautiful colour. The blade was dead in rust, i'm surprised it came back to life and these names were revealed..

    Love the shaped spine.

Those scales are so thin. I know ivory scales are usually very thin, but they look fragile.

    Lovely restoration.

Nice Joseph. Are you sure that's not Thomas D. Clare? That looks like an "E" at the end but the picture grains out when I zoom in.

Interesting it could well be..It actually looks like CLARL . Your guess makes more sense .But.. why have 2 makers and then there is a "K" which i figured must be for Kentucky ..

The notch is very nice.. The only question i have is the wide spine and like a 5/8ths blade might make for a dud bevel angle , maybe this steel can handle it..?

I wondered about the "K" also. I know they were playing around with alloys at and around that time and adding things like silver to the steel. I know manganese was one but never heard of using potassium in steel.
