Did you Sharpie the edge of the razor to ensure it was evenly hitting the hone?

Nothing like Sheffield steel in my opinion.

To this day, it amazes me to hold and use something that was made during the time Charles Dickens wrote.

Great looking W&B, love my W&B's, quickly became my favourite razor after joining here an unbelievable 7 years ago, time flies.

    Enjoy and great job :-)

No, I didn't have any sandings from the scales, so I blended the Sharpie into the damaged areas of the horn, then used epoxy over it. It's not perfect, but it covers it enough for me. I'll still need to fill in the chunk missing by the wedge pin. But the cracks are at lease glued.

I didn't hone it, I'm going to let someone else who's more skilled than me hopefully repair and put the edge on it to start fresh.

I agree, I really love holding/ using something that's been through history so long.

Got to love the old W&B's.there's just something about them I have always loved. Ditto on the sanding advice. It can become a mirage trying to get through all the pitting. Many have turned a razor into foil chasing the elusive shiny smooth finish. I've never actually foiled one myself but I have spent countless hours trying to get all the pitting out only to find that I was headed toward the other face of the blade if I kept it up.

I wouldn't worry about all the spotting TOO much.

This is one of my favorite razors of all time... 3/4 hollow shorty W&B with a nice heavy spine. It's spotty all over... and that one big one has gotten larger over the past 4 years or so. I likely should soak it in some white vinegar for a while to see if I can stop it/slow it down for now. Either way, my shaves are always good, regardless of spots!
