    Default Joseph Elliot near wedge

A 13/16 Joseph Elliot near wedge with a fancy spine. At first I thought this would be a pretty straight forward restore but close examination of the back face showed that at sometime in this razors life someone started to grind on the back face in the heel area. This created a hollowed out area and washed out some of the detail where the tang joins the heel. Looking at the in process pictures you can see the grinder did not initially even touch that area of the blade. The tape just provides a quick reference so I do not accidently grind back too far. I was worried I would lose the heel before it cleaned up but it all worked out. Restored in a glazed finish with the original re-dyed scales and lead wedge.

Lovely restore. You sure know how to evaluate what needs to be done and have a great touch with the grinder.

Ever thought of creating a video of one of your projects?

I completely agree! I own quite a few of Karl's blades including this beauty. I hope to convince him to one day allow me and Tim to come up to his shop and film him restoring an old Sheffield! By the way, this blade shaves like a dream!

Excellent work! Bringing a beauty like this back to it's former radiance is a type of magic all on its own.

I started this journey about 10 years ago. No teacher/mentor. Trial and error and a lot of research. I have broken a few eggs along the way but except for one they were my eggs. This forum has been invaluable. Glen Mercurio GSSIXGUN as offered some sound instruction and advice over the years. If not for his honing videos I would have been really lost. Always learning something new. The journey continues.
