Fancy 7/8 Holley
Another wonderful old Holley from Connecticut. Likely dates 1850's - 1860's. A 7/8 near wedge blade restored in a glazed finish with a thumb notch and upper and lower jimps. The original black horn scales have been re-dyed and have a lay or ley metal coffin shaped wedge end cap. I sometimes see these coffin shaped scales from the Connecticut makers but the wedge cap is rare. Lay or ley metal was a form of pewter made up of tin and 15% lead and used where the metal would not come in contact with food or drink. The original small brass collars were also retained in the restoration. The in work pictures show the blade off the 400 grit belt and the bevel set on a 1K hone.
