Thread: Joseph Allen cleaver

I got this at an antique store in Cheyenne, WY this weekend. It measures from 7/8 to 8/8 from heel to toe (respectively). I didn't spend much time at all sanding/polishing... nor do I know how much effort will go into that aspect. I do know that after honing (had to use 3 layers tape) and maybe 5 minutes on the strop, I was able to do ATG & XTG on the side of my face with only steam towel and hand soap. I was too anxious to do the whole prep. That will come later. I also picked up (except for the scales) an almost pristine W & B w/barber's notch, Union Razor, and a '32' Antelope razor. With the exception of the W/B, all need quite a bit of clean up.

Why did you use three layers of electrical? tape?
Because of the previous amount of honing?

This is a razor I'd be pleased to use.

I've got the same blade sitting on my bench waiting for restoration.....very nice!!

I love the point on that blade. It's a bit more stylized then usual and the rest looks to be in pretty good shape already. Quite nice.

Yeah, there was quite a bit of spine wear. I didn't want the bevel to be so wide. It was still pretty wide though.

It is kind of classy ain't it! Well... massive anyway Just that much more to sand
