Default W.H. Morley and Sons 5/8 spike in bloodwood

I have a place in my shaving rotation for Morley razors. They are some of the best shavers out there, I don’t know why they are not held in as high of regard as the Wade and Butchers. Most of my blades are barber notch but I came across this spike and decided to give it a try. There was some staining and light rust on the blade so I gave it the sanding routine followed by the buffing wheel. There is still some light pitting on the left side by the heel but this being a hollow ground razor I did not want to sand on it much.

I decided to put in a set of epoxy resin bloodwood scales with a matching bloodwood wedge. These scales fit a 6/8 and larger nicely but are getting a little large for a 5/8 blade, but it still looks pretty good. The blade has moderate hone ware but has lots of service life left in it. Morley’s use magnetized steel and it harder than most blades. It takes a little extra time to get it beveled and honed, but once there it will shave like a banshee. It is a nice razor and shaves like I expect a Morley to.

I learned to hone on a Morley. Eventually, when I learned what to do, it did indeed shave like a banshee!

    Very nice work,
