    Default A sawn-off Gracie

Finding that the standard 3" blade razor is a little bit too long I bought a Grah & Co. "Gracie" razor with a big chip in the point of the blade to cut down to 2.5 inches. (See below)

Some of the pitting was really deep so no mirror finish for this project. I was going for a mild French point effect.

I think the scales are really nice.

I'm going to hone it up tonight and see how it shaves.

    Nice work!

I agree with your assessment of the 3" blade. My favourite shaver at the moment is a small Tosuke blade that is absolutely terrific for getting the tougher angles (at least with my newbie shaving skills).

Interesting original design on the tip of the monkey tail. I could see a barber using that to hang the straight on the end of a hook. Provided the blade was tight I'd see no issue. Cool.

It'd be useful for anyone with small children, just hammer a nail high up on the wall and it's safe from curious little hands. I imagine a lot of kids in the 19th century cut themselves up with a straight in most homes.

I don't know how rare this tang design is, the Gracie DBolger bought in Mar had a standard tang.

If the blade wasn't already damaged, I wouldn't have had the heart to cut the blade.
