"Superhero" Carbon Fiber Scales
I did this rescale for a member here. He wanted a "fantasy/superhero" inspired set and sent me a picture of the type of shape he wanted. Here's the result. I didn't restore the blade at all, just rescaled it. The pictures really do not look nearly as good as it does in person. I think there are some funky reflections on the carbon fiber. Anyway, these took a lot more effort than anticipated. Now I want to keep them. Comments/constructive criticism welcomed!
Actually looking at the pictures again, I'm really kind of disappointed with them. Maybe there wasn't enough light or something, but these are much more stunning in person if I do say so myself. Tom, you will love these.
EDIT: For all the pins I decided on adjustables without washers. The carbon fiber can take the stress unlike wood. It gives it an "industrial" feel I was thinking. Also, wasn't much space at the very end of the wedge for a washer! This happened because I learned something while making these: The spacer has a nice taper to it which is cool... but with a material like this when the scales are brought together, with the placement of the original pin, the end of the scales would separate without that second pin which I then had to add. Anyway, it worked out.Last edited by Philadelph; 06-16-2008 at 05:06 PM.

Thanked: 13245OK yeah.... I'm feeling it!!!!
First impression was off the second pic, I was thinking Batarang
Then by the last pic, I was thinking those fantasy dragon style knives that people like Hibbon's make....
I really like the double pinning you did at the wedge end Alex!!!!

Alex,
. I now feel like I can go on about my crime fighting mission....with a clean shave. I can't wait to get them. I really appreciate your work and it turned out better than my expectations. Now I just have to find a carbon-fiber brush to go with them.
With Sincere Gratitude,
Tom

That's freakin' tight!
I like the overall shape and the CF gives the modern feel that pulls the look off.
Very cool!
