W Greaves Fencing Foils 9/8 Reworked/Rescaled razor
W Greaves and Sons “Fencing Foils”.This razor dates from 1835 to 1850.It is cast steel, wedge grind, and measures as follows:
1)Blade Width 9/8 (actual-1.130)
2))Blade thickness at toe 0..286
3)Pivot to toe(Blade Tip) 4.830
4)Cutting Edge Length 3.257
It is unusual in that it has a very long pin to tip,and cutting edge length,it is also very thick and heavy, for example a Wade Butcher Celebrated 8/8+++ measures 4.625 pivot to tip,so the scales for this razor are necessarily very long
This particular one was very strongly corroded, and required extensive rework, fortunately the edge, and mark were not as badly corroded. It has a mirror finish, and is shave ready.I have shaved with it ,and it does an outstanding job,but is very heavy,so you have to pay attention. This is an excellent razor for heavy bearded users.
This one will go on sale sometime next month, when I get some time
