First Resto Illustrated
I found an old blade at a junk store, I liked it because it had the name of a late 1800s early 1900s Winston Salem steel company on it. I polished it, and made new scales out of a piece of an old oak shelving unit my wife threw out, and I kept planning to make things with the wood. I dropped the blade while I was polishing it and chipped it, so I ground the tip down past the chip. Now I have to regrind it, and hone it, and it will be a shaver.

thanks! It was a lot of fun. I'm going to see if I can send it to Lynn for a good hone. It will shave, but really isn't sharp and I only have pocket knife hones. I'll report on the shave when I get it back.

Really nice job, Doc. I love the grain pattern in that oak.

I decided to finish this razor a bit more finely, and learned something. I peened the daylights out of the rod and washer, then began sanding for a nice finish. This is only the 150 grit level, I'm going to take it to 2000 before I refinish it.

Looks good, just be careful of peening the pins so much. You can crack a scale or usually bend the pin and end up with the blade tight in some spots and loose in others.
Cant wait to see how it looks after your fully done

I'm calling it finished. I got a little happy with the sanding, and popped one of the washers off. It's still tight, so I'm not going to worry about it. I may polish the blade up a bit more some later time. I had fun doing this, and learned a lot to apply to new projects. Thanks for all the info you guys freely give.
