Thread: Erik Antonberg 7-Day set Resto

So here is my first restoration, erm first 7 restos that I've taken to completion. They still all need to be honed and despite me having shaptons to 16k I still can't hone very good so I'm going to send these off to be honed by someone else.

The scales are all ivory with lapis lazuli spacers and sterling silver pins and domes. To prevent any galvanic corrosion or potential for it between the sterling and the steel all of the pivots were reamed to 1/8" (man was that steel hard) being careful not to heat up the blade... I installed some ultra-urethane tube that's mold resistant as bushings in the pivots (you can't see them) and they have nylon bushings between the scales. That way the sterling doesn't touch the steel in the pivot. All of them are tight and centered except for Monday which leans to the right and will barely touch the scales if not guided in. Despite re-pinning it three times and ensuring the pivot pin wasn't bent I just couldn't get it straight, just have to be careful on Monday morning I guess . Days of the week are stamped on the spine but hardly visible after I polished up the blades, they would've been quite visible if I left them with a satin finish but I couldn't help but make 'em shiny. Saturday has a pretty good chip in the toe but I'm hoping it can be rescued still as I've already managed to rescue it's broken scales with a fiberglass lining (was in two pieces at hinge pin), Friday also has a fiberglass lining as one scale had a pretty good crack at the pivot.

There was one downside to the restoration, I had hoped they would fit back into the original box as I did some resto work on it as well re-gluing one side of the box, cleaning the felt, fixing some broken stubs on the razor slots where the toe rests in the box and re-conditioning the leather with neat's foot oil. Unfortunately the razors just don't fit anymore, the spacers are thicker than the originals and the bead caps I used as domed washers for the pins just wouldn't allow it. Alas I had a solution to it though, gave me an excuse to buy one of the deerskin 7-day leather roll-up cases from classic, just have to wait for it to arrive now. But I do now have a box that, perhaps, another 7-day set of razors will fit in, I had wanted to put the original razors back in there but oh well.

This was quite the job, at least a week and a half of time spent in labor with all of the work that was done and many tools acquired so I could finish them up.
