Two dreams in snakewood
This is a razor from a customer, that I rehandeled with snakewood. A full hollow ground 8/8 Krauss. A very rare an special razor. One of the best, that I ever hold in the hand. The wedge is from brass and ebony.
Snakewood is one of my favorit woods. I´m very happy that I found a great piece with a beautiful grain.

The second razor is a 7/8 C.T. Bingham from Sheffield. Also a hollow ground razor. The wedge is here from brass an white plastic. This razor will be purchasable soon on my side.

Impressive work as usual I do like your razors!
But I have mix feelings about snakewood, I don't know if I love it or not - but I've never seen one in person, only in pictures...
Maybe I'll try to buy some to see... I am currently procrastinating in buying wood to make my first scales (I have no less than 5 blades needing scales a Landell, a Dovo, a Joseph Edley, a W&B and a Dumas)... I don't know which one to choose, I don't know where to buy (I've found a few sites in the US but shipping fees are very high, and nothing yet in Switzerland), I only have a little saw and a dremel (living in an apartment I cannot have all the toys - read tools - needed) and I am a little afraid to screw things up... but if you don't mind, I'll take some inspiration from your work.
BTW I love the Greaves & Sons you made... thankfully it was bought by somebody else before I was breaking my piggy bank...

Hello Ockham,
the haptical feeling from snakewood is outstanding. Try to see one in real. Perhaps in a knife shop in your town.
Wood in the right size (you must ask, then Markus will cut it for you) you can buy here in germany: Holz Muggle Shop
The prices are fair and you get exactly the piece, that is shown on the photo. I´m a satisfied customer there.
For the beginning you have all you need. Here is a little diy from my earlier days of scale making.

In this time I dont had more tools, than you now.
Just do it

Very fine razors indeed.
Your website is aptly named. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

I've been watching your work for 8 months and I think your heads above the rest
when it comes to scale making. I wish I had the machines to take a crack at it.
I have a lot of good ideas. Keep up the great work & thank you for showing your art.
I have to edit this because it sounds like the other scale makers
are not very good. This is not the case & I'm amazed at many many
of the pieces I see on this site.Last edited by Aurora Borealis; 09-14-2008 at 01:00 PM.
