Thread: Like new Genco vanadium in original foe Tortoise

I am home with a cold today so I have been finishing up some razor projects and starting a few others. The day is almost finished and I don’t want to start a big job so I got out the razor project box to track down a Genco I got several months ago. The blade had only the lightest of pitting on the top of the spine, no sanding needed, the buffing wheel with some grit compound will take it off. The blade was in otherwise very good shape, a little graying from time but that was it. A good buff will bring it back.

Now I have to admit, I like making custom scales, almost to a fault. I don’t have but 3 razors that have the original scales. Lately I have been appriciateing the razors for what they are, a piece of history and antique. The original scales were in good shape, the pins were floppy loose including the wedge pin. The wedge would turn in the scales. I decided to leave well enough alone and kept the original scales. I got my wheels ready and started gently buffing the blade. 5 wheels and an hour later it looks new. I gave the scales a pass on some white rougue then good old carnuba wax, cleaned up like new. Now I need to hone it up. I have another Genco in the project box with black scales but the blade is gold washed. I may break that one out soon and give this guy a friend.

Used it this morning, real nice shaver. I have been using a lot of big blades lately, 7/8, 8/8 so this was a big change. It is so light and delicate feeling in the hand. I will defiantly have to clean up that other Genco I have. I got on a US made razor kick a couple of months back and purchased a good half dozen assorted blades. Some I have cleaned up, others are sitting in the project box waiting their turn, they have all shaved very good.
